Charity AwardsShriners Hospitals for Children Receives "Best in America" Designation Shriners Hospitals for Children has received a "Best In America" Seal from Independent Charities of America (ICA) and Local Independent Charities of America (LICA). The Independent Charities Seal of Excellence is awarded to the members of Independent Charities of America and Local Independent Charities of America that have, upon rigorous independent review, been able to certify, document, and demonstrate on an annual basis that they meet the highest standards of public accountability, program effectiveness, and cost effectiveness. These standards include those required by the US Government for inclusion in the Combined Federal Campaign, probably the most exclusive fund drive in the world. Of the 1,000,000 charities operating in the United States today, it is estimated that fewer than 50,000, or 5 percent, meet or exceed these standards, and, of those, fewer than 2,000 have been awarded this Seal. Shriners Hospitals has also been recognized in Good Housekeeping as one of the best charities for kids, Smart Money Magazine as the number one health charity, and U.S.A. Today as one of America's top ten charities. In addition, Shriners Hospitals was awarded a Campbell Research Donor Approval Award as a Superior Health Charity. Saving Beverage Tabs Those little tabs on canned beverages, what can you do with them? Here’s the answer— save them and donate them to the Shriners Hospitals for Children. When you are finished with your beverage, just remove the tab and start helping our tab drive. When you have accumulated a bowl, bucket or barrel full of these little gems, just give them to a shriner. Once the tabs are collected and sent to a collection site, they are weighed and money is earned per pound. So far, thousands of dollars have been raised through the tab program. Proceeds help to purchase medical and non-medical items for Shriners Hospitals for Children. Shriners' Paper CrusadeWhen you see a Shriner in the middle of the street in September handing out newspapers, please give him your spare change in return for our Shriner Newspaper. Every penny helps with your donation going directly to the Shriners Hospitals for Children. The event has two purposes. First, the newspaper is to let the public know what the 22 Shrine Hospitals and Burn Centers do for children with orthopaedic problems, severe burns, and spinal cord injuries. Secondly, the Shrine Club hopes that the public will give the group a donation for the papers to help with the expenses of the hospitals. |
